Buildwise were appointed to carry out the sensitive conversion of the Grade II listed building into a large double-fronted shop unit with accommodation above. The building required structual repairs and a new roof. The complexity of the roof structure required specialist oak repairs. Our craftsmen used exacting methods for the lead and tile detailing to ensure a seamless apperance with surrounding buildings. Our professional team are used to the stringent requirements of local Conservation officers. As with any busy high street, access is limited and the site was constrained. Buildwise always strive to maintain good relations with neighbours and the public in these situations. The project was delivered on time and on budget, and with the praise of the Local Authority.

The Rotunda sits in a prominent position in Godalming town centre. Formerly part of a congregational church, the Grade II Listed Bargate stone building is of historic interest to the area.

Local architects C7 developed a design concept to enable the successful conversion to two high-end apartments, whilst embracing the challenging shape of the building and listed building restrictions.

A joint venture between two developers, Buildwise were contracted to undertake the restoration and refurbishment programme, as they needed a contractor with the experience of working sensitively with old buildings, and who had the skills to tackle any unforeseen issues that often arise with buildings of this nature.

Buildwise’s craftsmen restored the key period features while accommodating the requirements for modern living. The two apartments boast the best of the period features whilst being a unique place to live in an enviable location.
