Buildwise were appointed to demolish and replace a typical 1950s 5 bedroomed beachfront dwelling with a new build contemporary house. Although the present owners had enjoyed living in the property for 10 years, the house was of no intrinsic design value whereas the location is spectacular.

Sitting on a third of an acre site, architects Plan A designed a sustainable, light-filled home for 21st century living standards, with the flexibility to meet the owners’ lifetime needs.

Spaces have been planned out so several generations of the owners’ family can enjoy the house and location. On the ground floor there is a generous games and entertainment space that runs the full width of the house, and also a large gym. An external shower room is accessed via a paved path from the beach. The covered outdoor cooking area has a commercial sized FireMagic barbecue area with adjacent preparation area. A dumb waiter has been installed to link the ground floor to the first floor kitchen.

To make the best of the views across the sand dunes and sea to the Isle of Wight, the internal living areas are open plan and at first floor level. The master suite has floor to ceiling bi fold doors on to an expansive terrace which links to the adjacent open plan living area.

The project has been completed with permeable hard landscaping, and a low wall to the front built in 1930s reclaimed bricks from Lloyd Hall in Outwood. Buildwise rebuilt the Hall in 2016, and our client was a major player in getting funding in place for the new community building; she was very pleased to incorporate a little bit of history in this new setting.
